How does being a CAN Fund Recipient make a difference for you?
CAN Fund funding means I get to have a boat at the Olympic venue in Rio allowing me to get extra hours training in the exact conditions that I will race in during the Olympics.
How did you get involved in your sport?
My mother kept me very busy as a child and one of the activities she enrolled me in was sailing. First thought, “sailing, really, how lame!” That all changed when I fell in love with it on day one and was begging for more sailing lessons. From that point on I just kept doing what I loved and had fun doing it.
What does sport mean to you?
Sport is a way of life. I enjoy being active and sport is simply an organized fashion of running around and enjoying our beautiful country.
What is a healthy snack you eat before or after training sessions?
Sliced apples with almond butter.
What is in your refrigerator right now?
Crazy amounts of yogurt, cottage cheese, fruit, veggies, A LOT of almond butter and peanut butter, a small carton of milk and left over chicken curry.
What is the greatest advice a coach has ever given you?
“Just keep having fun.”
What advice would you give to young kids or teenagers about following their dreams?
If you enjoy what you do you’ll be amazed by where you end up.
If you weren’t a Canadian athlete you would be?
I love all sports so I would probably be an athlete in another sport. I also really enjoy taking photos, so maybe a photographer.
What is your favourite thing about being on the road with your teammates?
The many unpredictable shenanigans we get into. At least once a day I think, wow, we could probably fund our entire program by having a reality TV show, how do we even get ourselves into these situations!
What three items do you take with you on every road trip?
Tons of music, a sketch book, and a book.
