How does being a CAN Fund Recipient make a difference for you?
CAN Fund helped tremendously while preparing for the 2015 world cup. The Fund allowed me to purchase things that went on to improve my game. With Olympic qualifying and Olympics coming up next year I still want to improve and one thing I really need is access to recovery equipment.

Melsadie – Mother, Strength and Everything
She raised seven children by herself and taught me how to be strong and many more things.
What is the biggest hurdle you have overcome to get to where you are today?
One of the biggest hurdles I have to overcome to get where I am today is being from a single parent family it was hard. We had little money, we lived from pay cheque to pay cheque and it was hard and still is at times. I used that motivation to want to be successful.

When was the moment you knew you wanted to represent Canada?
As a young little girl I always wanted to play for Canada

What is the best part about representing Canada?
The best part about representing Canada is that it’s an honor. Only two groups of people represent Canada is our Army and our athletes.

Why are you proud to be Canadian?
I am proud to be Canadian because Canadians are the nicest people on the planet. Canadians are very multicultural. I take pride on being the first generation Canadian in my family.

How did you get involved in your sport?
A lot of people played soccer in my family. My father, brother, cousins all played. That’s how I got interested and enrolled.

Biggest lesson you have learned to get to where you are today?
Work hard every day. Give a 100% in every game. You never know who is watching.

What was your breakthrough moment?
I think my breakthrough moment was at nationals in St.Johns. I played a year up for the u16 provincial team.

What advice would you give to young kids or teenagers about following their dreams?
Coming from a low income family or a bad area, there is always a way out. You just need to find the right help and don’t ever give up because you don’t have money or your area is a bad. So people from that area never make it out of there. Be the first to. You don’t have to follow that pattern.

Being true and honest

What are your hobbies?
Play video games

“I learned to give not because I have much but because I know exactly how it feels to have nothing”

Hardball

Toast with PB, Banana, and honey
