How does being a CAN Fund Recipient make a difference for you?
CAN Fund allows me to finically be able to afford to attend the best competitions and training camps in the world on my journey to Rio 2016.
When was the moment you knew you wanted to represent Canada?
When I was grade 3. I had to draw my future for my autobiography and I drew myself at the Olympic Games on top of the podium with a gold medal around my neck.
How did you get involved in your sport?
My father is a fifth degree black belt and my personal coach. By watching him and his love for judo it inspired me.
What is the best part about representing Canada?
I feel so blessed to be able to do what I love and compete at the highest level in the world representing Canada. My hope is that my passion for my sport inspires others to reach for their dreams.
Who is your hero and why?
My parents. They have given me every chance to be successful doing something I truly love. There’s not much more I can ask for!
What is your proudest moment?
Representing Canada at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
What is one thing you have had to overcome and how did you do so?
Living and training on the best team in Japan. During my stay the horrific 2010 Tsunami hit.
What does sport mean to you?
My sport is a martial art which means it is a way of life. Respecting and honouring yourself and others is very important.
Do you have any pre-competition superstitions or routines?
I try not to have any so that I am not dependent on them for my performance. Expect the unexpected!
What is a healthy snack you eat before or after training sessions?
I really love guacamole, pico de gallo, and pitas. Fresh, healthy and fast is key for me.
Do you have a favourite recipe, what is it?
My mom’s guacamole.
What are your words to live by or your motto?
Have fun, make great memories and win medals!
What advice would you give to young kids or teenagers about following their dreams?
Do what you love, dream as big as possible and always do your best.

What is your favourite thing about being on the road with your teammates?
Experiencing some of the craziest and most memorable moments of your life while traveling the world. Stories that I will tell for a lifetime.
What three items do you take with you on every road trip?
Judo GI, Foam Roller and Vitamins.
