Biggest lesson you have learned to get to where you are today?
In order to get anywhere, you must constantly and actively force yourself out of your comfort zone. Put yourself in situations that scare or challenge you. Force yourself to step up and make something happen – especially in the moments when you doubt yourself the most!
Do you have any pre-competition superstitions or routines?
I don’t believe in superstitions! You are the same athlete and have the same experience, preparation, talent regardless of whether you put your right or left shoe on first! I like to have a coffee and take a cold shower before a game – but if I don’t do these things it’s not a big deal for me.
Why are you proud to be Canadian?
I am proud to be Canadian for so many reasons. Canada is full of amazing people who make up a collective that is stronger because of our many differences. While there is still a long way to go, I am proud to come from a country that celebrates these differences, promotes equality, welcomes others, and is full of opportunity. Lastly, I have seen many countries all over the world – but our home country is still one of the most beautiful.
What are your favourite places in the world you have visited?
Vietnam, Kauai
What three items do you take with you on every road trip?
Coffee, uniform, stick… and sometimes peanut butter. I usually travel with the smallest bag.
