Name: Rosanna Crawford
Sport: Biathlon
Hometown: Canmore, AB
How you got involved in your sport: I was born and raised in Canmore, AB and starting skiing as soon as I could walk. At the age of 10 I got to try biathlon, my older brother and sister were already involved, and I fell in love! The challenge of skiing and shooting is something so different than other sports!
The moment you knew you wanted to represent Canada: For a long time I had a hard time making it to Youth/Junior World Championships, I was always so jealous when my friends and teammates would be out skiing with a maple leaf and Canada on their back. When I finally got to wear my first maple leaf that I had earned by making the 2008 World Junior Championship team it was incredible. That race suit will always be my favourite design! From then on I knew that representing Canada at the Olympics was something I had to do!
Favorite Quote: “Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decided not to surrender, that is strength.”
CAN Fund Testimonial: CAN fund has been a big part of my athletic career. Jane Roos has always been willing to help me out with anything! I remember when I was in Toronto and I got to go to a presentation Jane was doing, she is such an amazing person and someone I really look up too. CAN Fund’s support financially and mentally has really made it possible for me to stand on the start line ready and knowing that I have done all that I could to be ready for that moment!
Best Result: 12th World Cup in Poklujuka, Slovenia 2012
Share one valuable tool that you use on a daily basis that helps you to be the best athlete you can be: I have worked with some great sport psychologists over my career. One of the many things they have taught me is that YOU need to believe in yourself first.
Who is one person in your life that has impacted your career and what was it that they taught you: My sister Chandra Crawford won a gold medal in the 2006 Olympics. She has always been a big inspiration in my life. Someone I can go to with anything, who is always willing to help me out anyway she can!
Fun Facts: One of my favourite things is to spend time with my family! They have been such a huge part of my life. I always make sure that I take the time to let them know how much I appreciate them. Our annual canoe trip from Banff to Canmore is something I would not want to miss out on! I have two amazing dogs who are the best training partners a girl could ask for!
