Hometown: North Vancouver, BC
Sport: Field Hockey
How did you get involved in your sport?
I got involved in the sport through my mother (Wendy Westermark), who played Varsity field hockey for UBC and was a member of the 1982/83 team that was inducted into the UBC Sports Hall of Fame. She coached me until I was 16 years old and has supported me through me entire hockey journey.
What is your favourite movie?
Pulp Fiction
Who is one person who has significantly impacted your life/journey?
Inderpal (Indy) Sehmbi
Tell us how the made a difference and share 3 words that describe who that person is to you.
Indy was the key driver of my development as a young player. He encouraged me to try out for the provincial team, was my first Team B.C. coach, and gave me countless opportunities as coach of the Burnaby men’s league team. I wouldn’t be where I am without him.
Support – Growth – Integrity
What is the biggest hurdle you have overcome to get to where you are today?
Compartment syndrome. For nearly three years, between 2011 and 2013, I was injured on and off, had to have surgery, and was unable to compete anywhere near my best. I finally figured out a training and recovery routine that allowed me to manage the injury and was a part of the team that qualified for and then competed at the 2016 Games in Rio!
