What is the best advice you ever received?
The best advice I’ve ever received is to be present and enjoy the journey. I’m a very competitive person and I find myself always looking for ‘what’s next’. I know this is important when it comes to a growth mindset, but at a certain point, if I am always looking for what’s next, I forget to enjoy the ‘now’. This piece of advice has helped me take time every day to ground myself in a moment, be present, and acknowledge the beautiful journey I’m experiencing.

Biggest lesson you have learned to get to where you are today?
The biggest lesson I have learned in my rowing career is that the journey to success is not a straight line. This may sound obvious to some, but when I started rowing 16 years ago, I expected to work hard and see success. I quickly learned that even if I’m working very hard, there will always be ups and downs on my journey to success. I’ve learned to celebrate the small victories and acknowledge progress along the way. This helps bring light to my dark, tough training days!

Why are you proud to be Canadian?
I am proud to be Canadian because as a nation we represent a balance of hard work, determination and kindness.
