Nickname: Gnar Car

Favourite Sports Memory: My first biggest snowboard cross event was a Grand Prix in the states. All the riders I looked up to where there, it was my first event that was televised and the features on the course were the biggest I had ever seen at that point. It was intimidating and there was more pressure to do well. I remember thriving off that moment and couldn’t wait to be able to keep on riding bigger and faster courses.

How you got involved in your sport: Snowboarding was something I started doing when I was in middle school. Soon after that I fell in love with it and ended up riding every possible day I could. Which ultimately led to competing in some local slopestyle competitions. At the end of Highschool the B.C provincial team approached me to tryout for the team. Until that moment I had no idea that Snowboard Cross was a world class sport and once I entered in my first race I was hooked. Ever since then my passion for the sport keeps growing as well as my desire to be the best at the sport I love.

The moment you knew you wanted to represent Canada: I’ve wanted to represent Canada ever since I was a little girl! When I was younger I was a competitive Gymnast. I remember watching the Olympics on the tv and knowing that one day I could do that too. I’ve grown up and changed my sport since then but I think that’s always stuck with me.

Favourite Quote: “Never give up on something that you can’t go a day without thinking about.”
CAN Fund Testimonial: CAN Fund is an amazing organization that provides elite athletes with financial help so that we can focus directly on what we need to be our best. CAN Fund has now allowed me to be able to devote my time directly towards my sport during my season so that I can now focus on GOLD. Without an organization like CAN Fund athletes are unable to be devoted fully towards what they need to excel in their sport.

Best Result: 5th Arosa World Cup Finals 2011

Share one valuable tool that you use on a daily basis that helps you to be the best athlete you can be: Recently I was introduced to the 1% rule. To me this is a reminder to not shortcut anything I do in my day. In the short term it might not seem like a lot but in the long term all of those add up and sometimes you can win or lose by less then that.

Who is one person in your life that has impacted your career and what was it that they taught you: I wouldn’t say that it’s one person but more my family as a whole. They have always supported me to go after what I want. They have allowed and taught me to go all in if it is something that I really want.

Have you read any articles or books or watched any videos or movies recently that really inspired you: Recently I came across a TED TALKS episode with Rodney Mullen who was an incredibly influential skateboarder. His talk is about “getting up again”, and the passion in which he talks about it really says a lot.
