James McNaughton

Name: James McNaughton
Sport:
Bobsleigh
Hometown:
Newmarket, ON

Favourite Sports Memory: Crashing across the finish line in Winterberg, Germany!

How you got involved in your sport: Ironically enough…the movie “Cool Runnings”

The moment you knew you wanted to represent Canada: Flying home from my first bobsleigh camp in Calgary, I watched the lead up to Vancouver Olympics and knew it’s what I wanted to do.

Favourite Quote: “If you sleep, you don’t win!”

CAN Fund Testimonial: CAN Fund completely turned around my pre Olympic season. I was getting very tight on cash and was going to have to start cutting my training/nutrition/recovery budget, preventing me from being my best in this critical season. I can now invest in everything I need to be my best, and am feeling great going into the Olympic qualifying season!

Best Result:
2nd place Calgary America’s Cup 2013
9th place World Cup 2012

Share one valuable tool that you use on a daily basis that helps you to be the best athlete you can be: Rest and recovery! You need to take the time to recover from all the hard work you put in.

Who is one person in your life that has impacted your career and what was it that they taught you: Heath Weir, my high school football coach taught me if I want something I have to work my tail off to get it. That started with training to win the high school championship, and carried over to University football, and now Team Canada Bobsleigh.

Fun Facts: I spend most of my free time hunting, fishing, wakeboarding, or just hanging out by the water. I love sushi so much, that I can’t even consider going to a place that isn’t all you can eat. I also cannot eat the last corner of a sandwich…I know…that’s really weird!
