Khamica Bingham Announces Winner of Her Car Giveaway

Olympic Sprinter Khamica Bingham Announces  Winner of Her Car Giveaway!

July 12, TORONTO-  Khamica Bingham is proud to announce the winner of her car “Shirley.”  After recently receiving a car sponsorship from Dixie Ford, Khamica wanted to help another athlete with their training and commute.  Instead of selling her current car she partnered with CAN Fund (Canadian Athletes Now Fund) a not for profit organization to give athletes from coast to coast the opportunity to apply for her car.  After receiving 19 applications, reviewing them and having a final four interview process the winner is Grant O’Gorman, National Beach Volleyball Team Player.

“I am so excited to give my old car ‘Shirley’ to Grant.  His story, athletic talent and amazing character is exactly who is deserving of my car“ said Khamica Bingham, CAN Fund Recipient.

Grant currently represents Canada on the FIVB World Tour and narrowly missed qualifying for the 2016 Rio Games.  Having lost both parents Grant is living in Toronto in the former Pan Am Games Athlete Village.  Grant’s current commute to training is up to three hours a day, consisting of street car, subway and bus.

“Having a car will allow me to improve my training as I can get more rest instead of commuting for hours.  I am also able to help other athletes who live in my building.  The car will have a great impact in my pursuit to represent Canada in the 2020 Olympics” said Grant O’Gorman,

CAN Fund Recipient.

CAN Fund has created a “Random Act of Canada” campaign where athletes and Canadians are doing random acts to support our athletes on their journey to be the best in the world. “I think what Khamica has done by giving her car to Grant is an incredible gesture and so impactful to his journey.  She could have sold the car but instead wanted to help a fellow athlete! An extremely generous ‘Random Act of Canada’ and fantastic leadership” said Jane Roos,

CAN Fund Founder.

Since 2003, CAN Fund has raised over $29 million which has been put directly into the hands of elite Canadian athletes training for summer and winter Games. CAN Fund proudly supported 80% of the Canadian athletes who competed in Rio, and now there are 201 winter athletes on the CAN Fund waiting list who are training to represent Canada in 2018.

CAN Fund provides every Canadian with the opportunity to become a part of an athlete’s journey in a very personal way, with every donation you find out the name of the athlete you have supported and receive a tax receipt.  www.MyCANFund.ca
