Nickname: Springer

Favourite Sports Memory: Geez it’s hard to choose just one. But something that always gets me going is seeing young kids battle it out in their chosen sport. I mean, these kids, whatever sport, are going out there to have fun, play fair, to win, to cheer each other on, involve everyone and they do it because they love it. Money, sponsorship or media attention has nothing to do with it. Seeing sport at its purist, seeing it for the positive impact in kids lives always creates a favorite sporting memory for me.
How you got involved in your sport: I was a tourist in Calgary and wanted to check out the sites so the first place I gravitated to was Canada Olympic Park as I wanted to check out the hall of fame and see one of the venues for the 1988 Olympics. Lucky for me there was a bobsleigh race on at the time and I immediately fell in love. I got involved in bobsleigh that day!

The moment you knew you wanted to represent Canada: Canada has been a huge part of my adult life and the support that I have been shown from the people of Canada made me want to compete for such a great country. As an Australian born athlete, I went through all the necessary steps to be Canadian to give back to such a great country that has supported me and my athletic dreams.

Favourite Quote: “Whatever you decide to do in life, just try and be the best you can at it” ~ Dad

CAN Fund Testimonial: It’s all or nothing for the 2018 Olympics! I plan on purchasing some new equipment to give us the best chance of winning gold in 2018. With the support from CAN Fund I know I can now be the best athlete I can be for the Olympic Games and that is truly a blessing!

Best Result: World Cup and World Championship medalist

Share one valuable tool that you use on a daily basis that helps you to be the best athlete you can be:
I daydream a lot. I mean, I visualize myself achieving greatness and when I snap out of that daydream, it fires me up to get out the door and give it my all.

Who is one person in your life that has impacted your career and what was it that they taught you: Erica Wiebe (Canadian wrestling national champion, 72kg). This girl works harder than anyone I know. Her work ethic is far beyond anyone I have ever met, always striving harder to be the best she can. Just being around her makes me want to continue to keep improving beyond my physical capabilities.

Fun Facts: I was born in Australia and grew up playing cricket, rugby league and was a surf life saver. I play guitar and sing a bunch and have written a couple sings, although I admit I am terrible at singing but make up for it in enthusiasm. I always kiss the Canadian flag on my helmet before I put it on my head (race day and training) and I always kiss it after I take it off at the bottom of the track.
