Waiting with the rest of the Canadian Olympic team underneath the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing as we were about to enter for the Opening Ceremonies… someone started singing “O Canada” and almost immediately the ENTIRE Canadian team broke out into song… it echoed throughout the hallway and our immense pride and excitement for representing our country became almost tangible.

CAN Fund Testimonial:
At very pivotal times in my career, becoming a recipient of the CAN Fund has solidified and confirmed my participation as a national team rower. It has kept my dream alive and helped to remove the financial stresses that sometimes seem to be ever present. It has helped me achieve my wildest dreams as an athlete!

Best Result:
World Championship gold medal at the 2006 World Rowing Championships (Women’s pair), and 4th in Beijing Olympics (Women’s eight).

Fun Facts:
I have never been an athlete, nor has any member of my immediate family. I always liked the idea of being sporty and having all the ‘gear’, so in grade 8 I decided to try out for the girls’ volleyball team at my junior high school. I had no experience but thought I could just breeze through because I was tall. I scanned the list after try-outs and was ecstatic to find my name at the very bottom of the list… and then noticed what it said beside my name… “team manager”. I didn’t care at that point that I would never actually play… I had made a sports team!
