Four winter medalists will be running the 5K this Ottawa Race Weekend to help raise funds and awareness of the Canadian Athletes Now Fund (CAN Fund). The CAN Fund is the Ottawa Race Weekend’s Official National Charity.

The following four medalists will be joining thousands of runners on Saturday May 29, 2010, at 5 p.m. to run the 5K race.

Marc Kennedy, 2010 Olympic Gold Medalist, Team Martin Curling
Kim St.Pierre, Three-time Olympic Gold Medalist, Team Canada Ice Hockey
Tania Vicent, Four-time Olympic Medalist, Speed Skating

“I am looking forward to giving back to an organization that has helped athletes across this country reach their dreams,” said Marc Kennedy, 2010 Olympic Gold Medalist for Team Martin Curling.“CAN Fund supported me and my teammates, and gave us the resources needed to properly train and prepare for the Olympics in Vancouver. CAN Fund played an important role in our Olympic Gold Medal. I am running to help support all those athletes who, like me, have a dream!”

People run/walk for many reasons. This Ottawa Race Weekend, the CAN Fund is inviting all Canadians to raise pledges to support Canadian athletes across the country.

Pledges for CAN Fund can be made as a reminder of the Pride, Inspiration, Excellence, Leadership, Role Models and the Passion we all felt while watching our athletes compete for Canada this winter. Running for our athletes or pledging support is about contributing to Canada’s success on the world stage. CAN Fund is the only charitable organization in Canada that lets donors know which athlete their donation has helped to support. Donors also receive tax receipts for each donation.

“Success comes with great preparation. Canadian athletes depend on the CAN Fund to provide the funding they need to compete on the world stage,” says Jane Roos, Founder and Executive Director of the CAN Fund. “This Ottawa Race Weekend, we all can honour our winter athletes’ achievements by supporting the next generation of Canadian athletes.”
