THE PURSUIT OF AWESOMENESS
Imagine the dedication it takes to accomplish something so extraordinary that no other Canadian in history has done it before. One and only one person has proudly worn the maple leaf at 3 different Olympic Games while representing Canada in 3 different sports. And right now this person is relying on CAN Fund for financial support as she faces the biggest hurdle in her sporting career while striving to qualify for her 4th Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
Over the course of 11 years she has competed at the Olympic Games in Alpine Skiing 2010, Ski Cross 2014 and Track Cycling 2016 where she won the Olympic bronze medal in Team Pursuit. Considered a strong medal contender for Ski Cross in PyeongChang 2018 she suffered a horrific crash in her final race before the Games subsequently breaking both legs and tearing essentially every ligament in her left knee. No stranger to adversity she has battled back from serious injury multiple times including 3 broken vertebra her rookie season of Alpine Skiing. To say she is one of the grittiest and most resilient athletes to ever wear the maple leaf is an understatement. Only 14 months after that devastating accident that ended her 4th Olympic Games campaign, multiple surgeries and losing 20lbs of muscle, she remarkably got back on the bike and competed for Canada on the World Cup circuit in February 2019. Currently, her sights are set on Tokyo and returning to the Olympic podium. Amid her incredible comeback she has said “the journey back to competition has been a tough one. A lot of tears, I was broken for sure. But in the grand scheme of things, I never gave up.” She has applied to CAN Fund because she needs your help.
The CRA does not allow us to earmark donations to a specific athlete. However, we can share with you the stories of the athletes who are applying to CAN Fund to give you a better understanding of the strength of character that lies within someone who is trying to be the best in the world. With every donation to CAN Fund you find out the name of the athlete supported and receive a tax receipt.
Our Adopt an Athlete program is $10,000. Right now when you adopt a Canadian athlete your donation will be matched by Eric and Vizma Sprott subsequently impacting the lives of two athletes on their journey to Tokyo.
